5 minutes philosopher

I think this is one of my desperate posts while inspiration is off on a beach-holiday and did not leave me a note telling when it will be back. Well… I still think that the set of questions below are quite interesting and if you wish to join me – in English or Portuguese – please do so, I can publish yours here, with a link to your blog.

Ok, so here we go…

What’s the meaning of life?
Socrates, Plato and all his friends couldn’t explain that… well…quite honestly I don’t have a clue. Guess it’s somethings along these lines… Live one day at the time and spend time with the ones you love all the rest is just not important.

What is the difference between right and wrong?
Well…that’s self-explanatory.

Is it easier to love or be loved?
To love.

What is true happiness?
Being able to be yourself with someone - without apologies or excuses

Nature or nurture?
Nurture. We are social animals, we “copy and paste” behaviour. Role models good/ bad shape our characters, they do not define us as we can still choose,  but they help us to create a sense of self. Obviously, nature also plays a part in the scheme of things otherwise how would we explain Einstein, Hawkins, etc?

Is it more important to be liked or respected?
Respected. It’s also a lot more difficult.

What would you want as your epitaph?
"I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul." from the poem Invictus by William Ernest Henley

When did you last lie?
5 minutes ago to make sure I wouldn’t spend time with a colleague at work doing small-talk.

Does the supernatural exist?
Of course. God is a very creative guy, He wouldn't create only one reality.

Are you fatalistic?
No. I believe we make choices and decide our own fate. However, somethings do happen for a reason.

What is your greatest fear?
To be forgotten.

Animals or babies?
Babies :) I love animal in pictures but I wouldn’t have one. Ever.

Where is your happy place?
Anywhere with my L.

What talent do you yearn for?
Maths and words. I’d like to be a Mathematician with a flair for writing literary masterpieces.

Do you like to be complimented?
I get really happy when someone say that I am an intelligent woman.

What do you hate the most?
Being the centre of attentions.

What book do you recommend most for others?
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and Imperium by Kapuscinski. – I re-read them once a year.

If food was an emotion, what would it be?
In – dul – gen – ce!! Yuuuummmmy!

Which lesson has been the hardest to learn?
That there is no recipe for life, there isn’t only one way of doing things or being happy. There are several ways and I had to find mine.

And you? what would be your 5 minutes philosopher like?
