5 things and 21 days

Thing One

I have been doing a lot of "practical reading" lately - sorry no literary masterpieces - but books packed with very useful stuff which are helping me to organize my life.

The first book is about personal finance and budgeting - Rethinking Budgeting - How to Escape the Poverty Mindset and Create a Lifestyle That Works for You by Simeon Lindstrom. It took only an hour of my life and it helped me to put my financial into a new perspective.  Awesome. After having a baby I had to learn how to manage my finances a little better and for my surprise it was not as easy as I thought it would be. I was getting so frustrated not being able to spend much as I used to! It’s not like I had loads (hahahaha) but giving up on my little indulgencies proved to be quite challenging. The great thing about this book for me was that it enabled me to identify my financial personality and what I can do to improve and how to get rid of my financial bad habits. It’s so simple how little changes make a massive difference. Next month, my financial life will be a lot more organised and as a result I will be happier and grateful for what I actually have. Not bad, right?

Thing Two

So I carried on the topic of habits and my search got me to another very useful little book...

The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do, and How to Change by Charles Duhigg – this is a very perceptive account on how we develop bad/good habits. We human are creatures of habit! We repeat and repeat what feels comfortable for us and we do it all the time, every single day without even knowing. Why do I choose to play on the mobile instead of getting on with whatever it is that I should be getting on with?

Habit!

If we don’t understand the science behind it, we don’t buy that it is all about HABIT.

It follows the same cycle: Cue, behaviour, reward!

So when we say “of course I can change this! I just have to want to do it!”- well that is not entirely true. Because knowing never made me change anything, here is a list of things I promise myself to do it and I simply don’t:
I never exercise.

I never meditate.

I don’t put M back to his bed when he wakes up during the night and wants Mummy

I don’t do my language exercises consistently enough to get results

Worst of all I am always dreaming and getting frustrated because things don’t happen! So in order to help me to achieve the change I need, I decided to break from this cycle and to do something to truly challenge myself!

Put myself out there, out of my comfort zone.

For the first time in my life I am sharing this with someone - you, my dear reader - that  I am a notebook hoarder that doesn’t get anything done!

I set myself a goal to change these things and I have 21 days to do it! It’s now or never!.

Thing Three

This is Leaderhall Market in the City, I went there for a little walk on my lunch break.

A friend of mine told me that some part of the Harry Potter movies were recorded here, I honestly don’t know. I haven’t read the books and I didn’t want to cheat by watching the movies…

Maybe one of you will recognise it.

Thing Four

Miniature little pleasure!

The purpose of this little pleasure is to write things down and keep me focused.

ONE TASK AT A TIME. ONE TASK AT A TIME!

Thing Five

A little walk, same fresh air, oh it’s Friday… I am starting to believe everything is possible.

Hopefully kisses, everyone. Beijinhos esperançosos!
